Updated: Aug 17

colourful crochet bowls made using front post and back post stitches

To read my thoughts on bowls you can go to the post called Bowling.........

Today I am going to provide you with the pattern for the Karioitahi bowl that was mentioned in the above post.

Using colour and texture together is something that I enjoy about crochet, so I decided to make a cute little bowl that incorporated both of those aspects.

Difficulty and Terminology: This is an intermediate pattern and uses US terminology.

What You Will Need: 1 ball 4 Seasons Flinders 8ply Cotton in orange (MC)

1 ball 4 Seasons Flinders 8ply Cotton in apricot (CC) 3.5 mm hook Tapestry needle for weaving in ends

Tension: 20 sts/8 rounds = 10cm/4 inches square in dc without turning at the end of each round

Sizing: The finished bowl is 7 cm wide and 5 cm tall.

Abbreviations: ch - chain sc - single crochet dc - double crochet bpdc - back post double crochet

fpdc - front post double crochet

The Bowl: Using MC; Round 1: ch2, 7 sc into first chain, join with slip stitch; Round 2: ch1, 2 dc into each stitch, join with slip stitch;

Round 3: ch1, 2 dc into each stitch, join with slip stitch; Round 4: ch1, *2dc into first dc, dc into next dc*, repeat * to *, to end, join with slip stitch; Round 5: ch2, bpdc in each stitch around, join with slip stitch. Change to CC at the end of this round; Round 6: ch2, fpdc in each stitch around, join with slip stitch. Change to MC at the end of this round; Round 7: ch2, fpdc in each stitch around, join with slip stitch. Change to CC at the end of this round; Round 8 & 11: repeat rounds 6 and 7; Round 12: repeat round 6.

Finishing Fasten off and weave in ends.
