Ring a Ring a Rosie.......

Crochet jewellery is fun and economical to make. You can really use your imagination in regards to colour and texture. This is the perfect time to use novelty yarns. Rings are an item of jewellery that is hard for me to go past, so a collection developed. The rings can stretch over time or if they get wet.


Difficulty and Terminology: This is an intermediate pattern and uses US terminology.

What You Will Need: 2.5 mm hook 4 ply cotton in a variety of colours

Tapestry needle for weaving in ends

Tension:

20 sts/10 rows = 10 cm/4 inches square in fsc without turning at the end of each round

Sizing: The finished ring is 2 cm inside across the inside of the ring.

Abbreviations: ch - chain fsc - foundation single crochet sc - single crochet

hdc - half double crochet dc - double crochet slst - slip stitch

The Ring: fsc 15, join into a ring.

Finishing Fasten off and weave in ends.

The Flower: Round 1: ch2, 6sc into 2nd chain from hook, change colour, leaving a long tail Round 2: ch2, 3hdc, slst, into next st, *4hdc, slst* into next st, repeat * to * to end.

Gauge 10 hdc x 10 rounds

Completed size 3 cm across flower

The Leaf: Round 1: ch 6, sc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in next stitch, dc in next stitch, hdc in next stitch, sc in next stitch. Then working on the opposite side of the foundation chain sc, hdc in next stitch, dc in next stitch, hdc in next stitch, sc in next stitch.

Finishing Using long tail sew to ring over the join

Gauge 25 dc x 20 rounds

Completed size 2 cm long

The Stone: Row 1: ch4, sc in 2nd chain from hook, sc in chain along, turn Row 2 - 8: ch1, sc in each sc across, turn. Do not fasten off Fold in half and sew edges together.

Finishing Sew to ring over the join

Gauge 20 sc x 30 rows

Completed size 1 cm square

The Fish: Round 1: ch 6, sc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in next stitch, dc in next stitch, hdc in next stitch, sc in next stitch. Then working on the opposite side of the foundation chain sc, hdc in next stitch, dc in next stitch, hdc in next stitch, sc in next stitch, slst into bottom if the last sc worked, ch7, slst in the same st, ch7, slst into the same st.

Finishing

Fasten off and weave in ends, leaving a long tail.

Using long tail sew to ring over the join

Gauge 25 dc x 20 rounds

Completed size 2.5 cm long
